Ardbeg 10 Year Old

Ardbeg 10 Year Old
Single Islay Malt Scotch Whisky
For peat-lovers, Ardbeg 10yo is probably the highest-quality 'entry-level' single malt on the market, and the distillery many Islay connoisseurs would choose as their favourite. A whirlwind of peat and complex malty flavours, this is an exuberant, in-your-face whisky to be cherished.

Ardbeg

Ardbeg was officially established by the MacDougall family in 1815, the same year as Laphroaig came into official existence a few miles along the road, although it seems that illicit distilling had already been taking place on the site for over twenty years, with Alexander Stewart having founded a distillery there in 1794. Like its fellow southern Ileachs, Laphroaig and Lagavulin, Ardbeg is heavily peated, with a turfy smoke and seaspray character predominant in most bottlings. The distillery fell foul of the global whisky downturn in the late 1970s, which, coupled with some criminal mismanagement by the then owners Hiram Walker, led to the distillery falling silent in 1981. Production resumed sporadically in 1989, but the distillery fell silent again in 1996. However, all was not lost. In 1997 Ardbeg was taken over by Glenmorangie plc, and the past decade has seen a remarkable turnaround in fortunes for this previously neglected distillery, which now boasts an excellent tour onsite, a cracking restaraunt and a worldwide following eager for all things Ardbeg. An initial release of aged stocks bottled as a 17 year-old in newly-designed packaging proved an instant runaway success, and has been followed by a string of highly successful official bottlings.
The core of the range is now the standard 10 year-old - an exuberant, fruity, peaty dram - but there have been several vintage and single cask bottlings that have been elevated to the status of instant classics by Islay aficionados, and surviving bottles of the earlier releases now command sums far in excess of their initial list price. The success of these new bottlings, coupled with the huge surge of popularity of all things Islay-related in recent years, has also led to a revival of interest in older bottlings of Ardbeg, with the result that independent bottlnigs released while the distillery was silent in the eighties and early nineties have shot up in value. In particular, vintage releases of Ardbeg from the period before 1977 when the distillery's floor maltings were removed (a dreadful error by Hiram Walker) are extremely highly sought-after.

Jack Daniel's Single Barrel

Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Tennessee Whiskey, the world's first charcoal mellowed whiskey to be bottled by the barrel was first introduced in February 1997. It allows whiskey aficionados to sample the work of individual barrels, comparing the subtle difference imbued by the new American white oak barrels and the intense maturation process. Each barrel of whiskey is sampled as it comes of age by their current master distiller (and his tasting panel), they then set a few aside. These barrels are the ones with the smoothest taste and the most intense flavour of varying degrees of toasted oak, caramel and vanilla. The few destined for something special - to be sold, one barrel at a time to our most discriminating customers.Jack Daniel's Single Barrel is always found in the upper most parts of the barrelhouse - they like to call this the 'Penthouse'. Because every barrel is different and in various locations in the barrelhouses no two barrels are the same. Each decanter style bottle of Jack Daniel's Single Barrel proudly carries details of the rick number, barrel number and bottling date, communicating that each bottle is completely unique.

Johnnie Walker Blue

Johnnie Walker Blue Label is their rarest blend. This isn't a whisky for beginners. It's challenging and an acquired taste, but like the finest rewards in life is worth it.Created from the rarest and most expensive whiskies in the world, Blue Label has the authentic character and flavour of a traditional nineteenth century blend, just like those that John Walker and his son Alexander developed for their most valued customers.Blue Label is made from a few exceptional whiskies with powerful flavours. Each bottle is precious to us and is individually numbered. Each contains a rare taste and gives an intense experience. Blue Label is the ultimate luxury Scotch Whisky and supplies of Blue Label are limited by the rarity and expense of the whiskies used in the blend. At the heart of Blue Label is Royal Lochnagar, a rare malt distilled near Balmoral, the Queen's holiday home. Around 15 other mature and precious whiskies are added to balance Blue Label perfectly - 'a blend that cannot be beat', (Alexander Walker, 1888).
